Las Vegas, NV – Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: ARW) and Embedded Planet announced an expanded collaboration to create products for the Internet of Things (IoT) market today at CTIA Super Mobility 2015. Embedded Planet is providing gateway and wireless sensor products integrated into Arrow’s new Intelligent Gateway products. The IoT products provide off-the-shelf gateway, sensor and remote management capabilities based on LoRa from Semtech and Arrow’s new API-centric Intelligent Services offering.
Embedded Planet, a Cleveland, Ohio based Machine to Machine (M2M) company, has created a range of products for OEMs to quickly create IoT product offerings using wireless sensors. The LoRa solution includes the EPM2M-LORA Gateway and the EPM2M-NORAM Sensor modules. The EPM2M-LORA Gateway can be used for any LoRa based sensor network which requires the sensor data to accessed via Wi-Fi, cellular or satellite communications and requires a flexible back haul connection for data management.
The EPM2M-LORA Gateway is a Linux based off-the-shelf solution that is simple to implement and is capable of delivering customer sensor data, by wireless or wired connection, to cloud-based graphical web displays or to the customer’s existing ERP or business enterprise database system.
The EPM2M-NORAM Sensor module allows customers to receive data for GPS, temperature, accelerometer, and pressure while getting this data securely and reliably over LoRa. The EPM2M-NORAM module also supports mbed ARM development and includes an Arduino interface for prototyping other sensors.
By integrating the EPM2M-LORA Gateway with the EPM2M-NORAM Sensors an OEM can greatly simplify the implementation, provisioning and data visualization. The EPM2M-LORA Gateway comes integrated with MachineShop’s device, data and event management services and APIs.
MachineShop APIs leverage industry standard interfaces to allow the OEM to quickly develop a product and manage their equipment. The EPM2M-LORA Gateway also supports sending data directly to a cloud based portal like Buglabs’ Freeboard, to hosting site like AWS or directly to an OEM’s database.
“Arrow Intelligent Services is the ‘fabric’ that will enable the edge-to-enterprise integration of IoT solutions,” said Aiden Mitchell, Vice President of Semiconductor Marketing at Arrow. “It will dramatically simplify the way OEMs, enterprises and suppliers build, deploy and manage connected and intelligent systems.”
“The EPM2M-LORA Gateway and the EPM2M-NORAM Sensor enables an OEM to quickly add LoRa based sensors to their equipment and implement M2M or IoT services for their customers. An OEM can implement IoT now by using Arrow Intelligent Services and the Embedded Planet LoRa system solution”, said Matt Hoover, CEO of Embedded Planet.
